May is Exercise is Medicine Month!

Happy May everybody! Guess what? This month is all about less sitting and more moving!

It’s really amazing, all of the health benefits that come along with exercise. Not only does staying active improve your overall health, but it has also proven effective for the treatment and prevention of chronic diseases. (Particularly obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and cancer.)

That’s why, during the whole month of May, I am challenging all of my readers to be more active! Even if you already exercise regularly, there’s no reason not to step up your game and do a little bit more; or even better, inspire someone less active in your life to get up and get moving!

So here’s the goal for May:

- Try one new form of exercise each week. (Something you’ve never done before. Yoga, Zumba, Pilates, Swimming… Anything that would be a new form of exercise for you!)

AND

- Do 30 minutes more activity every day. (For example. Say one day you went to the gym for your workout at 7AM, then went to work, and normally you would come home have dinner and then watch TV. Instead of watching TV, do something active. It doesn’t matter what it is. Walk your dog, ride your bike, do a yoga video from Youtube… The possibilities are endless.) The goal is to replace an unnecessarily sedentary part of your day with something more active!

Plus, if you take pictures of yourselves doing your new exercise routines and send them to me, I’ll post the most creative ones to The Hungry Runner Facebook page!

Remind yourself and everyone that the reasons why you should exercise far outweigh excuses not to!

Now, in case you forgot or are still groggy from waking up, today is May 1st… So, what are you waiting for? GO GET ACTIVE!
