I know, I know… You’ve heard this one a million times, but I really don’t think it can be reiterated enough. Numerous, numerous studies have shown that people who skip out on eating a healthy meal during the AM hours are much more likely to be overweight. Plus, all science and research aside, if you think about it on the most basic level it makes a lot of sense. First of all, you just woke up from a prolonged period of time without eating… Your body needs energy. It needs fuel! Second of all, even if you’re not really all that hungry in the morning, skipping breakfast probably means you’re going to be twice as hungry by the time lunch rolls around, which could lead to overeating and poor food choices. So, those calories you thought you were saving by skipping The Most Important Meal of the Day, you’ll probably wind up eating them later on in the form of something with little nourishment that isn’t considered “healthy.”
Everybody is different, though. Usually I’m very hungry in the morning when I wake up, so I normally have a large breakfast. But if you find that you’re just really never that hungry during the early hours of the day, I would suggest eating something small but nutritious like a piece of fruit. Wait to have a larger meal for when you really feel hungry because you shouldn’t ever feel like you have to eat at a certain time, especially if you’re not hungry.
